Social History of Education
Based on an analysis of child protection policies in the United Kingdom from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, I am studying the establishment of ideas such as “children should be protected” and the importance that is placed on the idea of “parents raising their children”. My research also focuses on the relationship between the various systems for child protection and the science and technology of the time. I am currently exploring how the “norm” of parents, children, and families came to be considered “normal.”
